Dave has been creating a lot of beautiful things with wood. Two of my favorites projects are the toilet paper holders. Here is the one for the small bath.
Peeking inside.
However, this post is about repurposed toilet paper holders. Unfortunately, I didn’t take a shot of them before I repurposed them but you’ll be able to recognize them. I’ve been thinking about garden art quite a bit these last several months. I started following The Empress of Dirt, specifically about her posts about garden art. Here is one on art flowers.
I’m still not ready to drill plates, and the plates on my bird baths couldn’t be glued. If glued I wouldn’t be able to get the flower pots out! So here they are – my new bird baths.
I’m not sure how the plants will grow being shaded by the plates, but we’ll see. I’m looking forward to creating a bit more garden art. Love all the colors.
In the post title, I mentionedย Substack. If you’re not familiar with it, it is another platform to host a blog, and it’s free. I joined to check out the community a while back and found everyone so positive. You can follow anyone on the platform, but to receive their posts by email, you need to subscribe, which is free. Some writers encourage readers to become paying subscribers. Often, they offer more posts for those people than the free subscribers.ย Substack makes its money by charging 10% of any funds the writer receives from the paid subscriptions.
Over the last six months, several newsletters and blogs I’ve followed have moved to Substack. Even my artist friend, Lesley Riley, has a substack called Further to Fly. Oh, I love that title! You can see her Substackย here.ย
After much thought, I decided to add my own Substack called Heines Sight. I’ve been spending a lot of time lately writing about life and genealogy, and this would be a great place to put those pieces out there. I’d love for you to come over and check out my Substack. You might find some new friends, learn new skills, and maybe decide to start your own.
That’s all now. My hands are dirty with paint on a project I’m completing, and now I’m really looking forward to getting out in the dye studio and do some dyeing. Hope you are staying cool. We’ve had a lot of rain and storms, but I think they are over for the time being. Seeย you next time.

Very creative! I repurposed a metal trash can (inside) and use a plastic flower pot saucer for my bird bath. I love what you’ve done using the plate and (I guess) the toilet paper holder! And Dave’s wood is beautiful. I’ll check out Substack – wasn’t sure what it was but I’ve seen others mention it too.
Thanks. I was planning on making some plate flowers or totem poles out of plates and other dishes, but when I looked at those toilet paper holders, I thought they would work great with both a plant and making it into a birth bath. Interesting using the trash can. I’d like to see that. Substack is pretty interesting. I’ve found some great people to follow.
